Jamaica is warm and welcoming all year, but its rainfall has personality: two distinct rainy spikes (around May and again in October) bracket the drier, sunnier stretches that most travelers are after. Get the timing right and you’ll trade crowds and rain for sunshine and value.
General guidance from typical seasonal averages – always check a live forecast before you book. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30 (peak August-October); a storm in season is the exception, not the rule, and travel insurance is smart in those months.
Jamaica: season by season
High & dry season. The peak season runs mid-December through April, with the sweet spot often the calm, dry weeks of late November to mid-December before the holiday rush. Expect sunny 80s, lively resorts in Montego Bay, Negril and Ocho Rios, and the highest rates of the year.
Hurricane & low season. August through October combines hurricane season with Jamaica’s second rainy peak, especially in October – the wettest, least reliable time to visit, but also the cheapest. If you go, the south and west coasts tend to stay drier than the northeast.
Shoulder season (best value). Late April, June and July are warm and mostly bright between the two rainy peaks, with better prices than winter – a solid pick for budget-minded sun seekers.
What else to know
Music fans plan around the calendar: Rebel Salute in January and Reggae Sumfest in July are the island’s signature events, and Montego Bay’s Jazz & Blues festival is a winter highlight. The Blue Mountains stay cooler and greener if you want a break from the beach.
