Plus, it is right by a lovely private cove beach with those gorgeous blue waters – just picture-perfect for what you would imagine a Caribbean getaway to be.

Personally, one of the highlights of this best resort on St. Lucia was definitely the Crystal Lagoon pool. It winds through the resort and is actually the longest pool in the Caribbean! Floating around in that warm sun was such a treat.

Also, you cannot visit Halcyon Beach without dining at Kelly’s Dockside, the unique overwater restaurant. The sunset views are absolutely stunning while you enjoy some amazing surf and turf for dinner. Just a heads up – make sure to snag a reservation on time since it is a hot spot, so it gets booked up quickly!

Spread over an impressive 220 acres, it comes with a stunning private white sand beach that wraps around a half-mile cove. If romantic spots are your thing, this is definitely the place to be!

The Sunset Oceanview Bluff Village is a dream! The views are absolutely stunning, and even if you do not stay in the Ocean Bluff Suites, you can still catch those incredible sunsets from the pool or at the lovely restaurant, Armando’s – it is arguably the best spot for that gorgeous view.

Furthermore, if you manage to snag a stay in one of the Oceanview Butler Villas, you are in for a luxurious experience. These villas are among the very best at all Sandals locations, not just in Saint Lucia. So, if you are able to stretch your budget a bit, definitely consider these – you will not regret it!

The resort grounds are quite large, but do not worry about getting around – there are shuttles to take you between different areas. So if you prefer not to walk much, the staff at Sandals Resort St. Lucia La Toc has got you covered!

Average Cost of a St. Lucia Vacation

When planning a trip to St. Lucia, it is key to keep your budget in mind, considering everything from room rates to flight costs and those surprise expenses that can pop up. 

For a mid-range vacation, you are looking at around $3,450 for a week, or about $5,570 for a couple. If you are aiming for something more luxurious, costs can go up to $7,230 per person and $11,150 or more for two. I will break down accommodation options and airfare for you below.

Accommodation Costs  

The price of where you stay can vary a lot in St. Lucia based on the season, type of place, and its location. 

• All-Inclusive Resorts: The best resorts on St. Lucia tend to be pricier than regular hotels, but remember to factor in the costs of food, entertainment, and travel. Expect to pay between $400 and $750 per night for two at an all-inclusive resort, excluding airfare. For high-end resorts, you might pay around $900 a night or more.

• Hotel Stays: If you prefer a more tailored experience, traditional hotels offer flexibility. In peak season, a private room in a two-star hotel starts at about $170 per night. For a four or five-star hotel, you’re looking at $450 or more per night, with additional amenities.

• Budget Options: If you are watching your wallet, there are plenty of affordable hotels in St. Lucia. You can find budget stays or shared rooms for around $50 to $150 a night.

Airfare Costs  

Finding a good deal on flights can really help with your budget. To save money, it is best to book flights in advance and keep an eye on prices. Airfare tends to spike during peak season, particularly in December, averaging between $700 and $800. But if you plan to travel in May or June, you can score flights for about $500.

Additional Expenses  

Do not forget about those extra costs like meals, transportation, and activities. If you are staying at an all-inclusive resort, meal costs will not be as big of a concern, so it is smart to compare potential extra expenses when considering where to stay. 

On average, expect to spend about $30 per person for a meal at a basic restaurant, similar to U.S. prices. If you opt for a nice restaurant with multiple courses, the price can go up. On the other hand, quick street food at a “shack” or some appetizers can cost you less than $20 per person. Just remember this usually does not cover the 10% VAT or tip. 

For getting around, there are taxis and rideshares like Uber or Allez. A 20-minute cab ride will run you about $20. For a budget-friendly option, the St. Lucia Minibus System is available at around $2.50 EC (about $1 USD) per fare.

• Marigot Bay: Often dubbed the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean, Marigot Bay is a peaceful getaway. I adore watching the luxury yachts float by on the calm blue waters, and the lush hills surrounding the bay are a stunning backdrop. If you are looking for a romantic spot, you cannot beat the breathtaking sunset views here.
• Castries: As St. Lucia’s lively capital, every trip to Castries is filled with excitement. The local markets buzz with activity, featuring unique handmade crafts and aromatic spices. And if you are into architecture, the murals in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception are absolutely worth a visit!
• Pigeon Island National Park: While Pigeon Bay falls under Gros-Islet, it deserves its own mention. This island is rich in history, with its well-kept forts, and it offers some truly amazing landscapes. As someone who loves hiking, I find the trails and lookout points here to be among the best, showcasing panoramic views of the sea.
• Gros-Islet: At the northern tip of the island, Gros-Islet has become quite the hotspot for tourists since it is the largest district in St. Lucia. You will find some of the island’s must-visit beaches here, like the well-known mile-long Dickenson Bay. Plus, the town comes alive with street parties featuring local vendors, bars, and lots of dancing!

Soufrière: Tucked away on the west coast, Soufrière is famous for the stunning Pitons, which are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The colorful buildings in town are enchanting, and you cannot miss the Sulphur Springs, the world’s only drive-in volcano! If you love snorkeling or diving, nearby Anse Chastanet is a dream with its clear waters and vibrant marine life.

Best Time to Visit St. Lucia

Deciding when to visit St. Lucia really depends on what you’re looking for – whether it is the best weather, lower prices, or fewer tourists. 

Here is a breakdown of the island’s peak season, shoulder seasons, and hurricane season to help you figure out what’s right for you.

Peak Season  

From December to April, you will find St. Lucia at its busiest. The weather is fantastic during this time, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 30°C. However, keep in mind that it is also when prices for the best resorts on St. Lucia spike up.

Hurricane Season  

If you are looking for the best deals, August to October is when you will find significantly lower prices because it is hurricane season. The weather can be a bit unpredictable with increased chances of rain and storms, but these showers usually do not last long. If you are on a budget, the low costs can be really tempting, but just be sure to keep an eye on the forecast. It is also a good idea to get travel insurance if you do decide to book during this time.

Shoulder Seasons  

May and June are great months to consider if you want a balance. The temperatures feel nice, usually in the high 70s to 80s°F, and rainfall is pretty minimal, around .87 inches a month. You can also snag some better deals on places to stay and flights during these months, plus the crowds are much thinner than in the peak season.

This Caribbean gem is packed with activities that really highlight its stunning natural beauty. Here is my top 10 list of things to do on St. Lucia:

Hike the Pitons 

The iconic Gros Piton and Petit Piton rise impressively to 3,000 feet. While the hike up can be challenging, the breathtaking views at the summit are absolutely worth it. Plus, you get to check out Piton Falls and take a refreshing dip in the sulfur springs. Set aside at least half a day for this adventure.

Unwind at the Drive-In Volcano

St. Lucia has the world’s only drive-in volcano! I love spending time here, relaxing in the rejuvenating sulfur springs and soaking up the lush surroundings.

Visit Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens

This beautiful 6-acre private park is home to a variety of plants and the gorgeous Diamond Waterfall. It is a perfect spot to unwind, and you can enjoy a soak in the mineral baths. Just a heads up, there’s a $7 USD entry fee for adults, and they only accept cash.

Explore Pigeon Island

This 44-acre national park is rich in history and culture. You will find beautiful beaches alongside fascinating remnants from the past, all untouched by modern development.

Snorkel at Anse Chastanet

The clear waters and colorful marine life make snorkeling here truly magical. It is like stepping into an underwater wonderland. Those who love exploring the underwater world will have a fantastic experience!

Trek the Tet Paul Nature Trail

If you are looking for a gentler hike with stunning views, this is my go-to. It offers amazing vistas of the Pitons that you will not forget.

St. Lucia is famous for its diving, considering it has over 22 dive sites for all skill levels. One of my favorites is Coral Gardens, filled with tropical fish and coral, located at the foot of the Piton Mountains.

Enjoy The Beaches

The southwest coast features some of the best white sand beaches with calm Caribbean waters. Whether you are looking for hidden coves or expansive bays, you will find your own little slice of paradise. My personal favorite is Anse Mamin Beach, which is spacious enough not to feel overcrowded.

Things to Know About St. Lucia

If you are planning a trip to St. Lucia, here are some key tips to help ensure your adventure goes smoothly, covering everything from the local culture to how to get around.

Culture  

St. Lucia has a vibrant cultural scene that combines African, French, and English influences. While English is the official language, you will find that most locals also speak a French Creole known as Patois. When you greet people, do not forget to say hello – it is a big part of the local culture! The friendly community has a deep appreciation for folk traditions, especially the upbeat steel pan music.

Food  

St. Lucian cuisine is a delightful mix of West African, French, and East Indian flavors, featuring dishes like green figs and saltfish, which is the national dish. Make sure to try local favorites like lambi (conch stew), bouillon (a meat and vegetable soup), creole barbecues, and fried plantains – each dish showcases the island’s diverse tastes. 

The seafood is incredibly fresh, too, as fishing is not overly commercialized yet. If you are looking for a special dining experience, check out Treetop Restaurant. It is known for its delicious curries and offers stunning sunset views over the Pitons.

Weather  

St. Lucia has a warm, tropical climate all year round, with temperatures typically ranging from 72 to 95°F. June is usually the hottest month. The rainy season runs from June to November, with September seeing the most rain at about 1.02 inches. Do not worry too much about the rain, though – it is often brief and tends to keep the crowds away. The best time to visit is between December and April, when the weather is most consistently sunny.

Passport and Visa

If you are traveling to St. Lucia from the United States or Canada, you will not need a visa for visits that last up to 90 days. Just remember to have a return or onward ticket to present at customs. Also, U.S. citizens must have a valid passport, so ensure it is good for the entire duration of your trip!

Transportation 

Taxis are readily available on the island, and be on the lookout for official cabs. They will have a light blue license plate starting with TX. It is smart to clarify the fare before you hop in to dodge any potential misunderstandings. If you prefer, your hotel can arrange a taxi transfer for you. Ride-sharing apps like Uber and Lyft also operate from the airport and throughout the cities. 

Renting a car gives you great flexibility, but remember you will need an international driving permit, which you can easily get for about $20 USD at the rental place. If you plan to do any off-roading, choose your vehicle wisely! And do not forget, you will be driving on the left side of the road. Public buses are another affordable way to get around. They will have a green license plate beginning with M. It is a good idea to have some local currency for bus fares, which are typically under $3 EC for rides anywhere on the island.
