Quick answer: Barbados added 160 rooms and suites across two new hotels this summer: the 132-room Hotel Indigo Bridgetown Barbados on the south coast at Hastings, and the 28-suite Blue Monkey Hotel & Beach Club at Paynes Bay on the west coast, which opened in late July 2026. Neither is all-inclusive. Both sit within about 15–30 minutes of Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI), and both are aimed squarely at travellers who want a Barbados base without buying into a full resort package.

Hotel Indigo Bridgetown Barbados — 132 rooms, five bars, a rum room

IHG’s Hotel Indigo brand opened in Hastings, on the island’s south coast, earlier this summer. It is the larger of the two by a wide margin.

  • Standard rooms: 444–460 sq ft, king or two queens
  • Premium rooms: 650–670 sq ft
  • One-bedroom suites: 891–1,200 sq ft
  • Bars: five, including the Vista Rooftop Lounge & Bar with two plunge pools and 270-degree views
  • Restaurants: Compass (Caribbean and international), Vintage Café, plus tapas and cocktails at Vista
  • Rum Room: a dedicated tasting and pairing space
  • Other: heated outdoor pool, fitness centre, complimentary self and valet parking

The detail worth flagging for couples: there is an adults-only floor, Level Six, restricted to 18 and over. On an island where the adults-only conversation usually starts and ends with the all-inclusives, a 132-room hotel carving out one floor is a different proposition — you get the quiet without committing the whole trip to it.

Two plunge pools on a rooftop is also, practically speaking, a small number. If the rooftop is the reason you are booking, understand you are sharing them with 132 rooms’ worth of guests.

Blue Monkey Hotel & Beach Club — 28 suites on the Platinum Coast

Blue Monkey opened officially in late July 2026 at Paynes Bay, St. James, on the west coast — the stretch locals call the Platinum Coast. It is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, and it is very small.

  • Executive: 380 sq ft
  • Luxury One Bedroom: 750 sq ft
  • Signature: 825 sq ft
  • Luxury Private Pool: 1,150 sq ft — only two exist
  • Luxury Two Bedroom: 1,250 sq ft

What is included in the rate: daily breakfast, airport fast-track and luxury transfers, complimentary non-alcoholic minibars, Frette linens and Santa Maria Novella bath products. The property has a private beach club on Paynes Bay Beach, a spa, and a 24-hour gym. Dining is Amara (Mediterranean and Middle Eastern), the Monkey Bar, and beach club service.

Chairman C.J. Sabga has noted the build used a more than 90% Barbadian construction team and that more than 95% of the permanent workforce is local — a genuine point of difference on an island where that is not always the case.

The number to sit with is two. Two Luxury Private Pool suites in the entire hotel. If that is the room you want, it is not a decision you make in November for February.

How this fits the rest of the island

Barbados has been on a run. The island posted record tourism numbers and added flights earlier this year, and unveiled its “Tourism 3.0” strategy in the spring. Air access has kept pace — a New York–Barbados JetBlue fare of $428 was in market as of August 23, 2026, which is a genuinely aggressive number for a southern-Caribbean island.

On the all-inclusive side, Sandals operates two adjoining Barbados properties, Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados. Both list a transfer time of approximately 15 minutes from Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) on their own travel-checklist pages, and both include round-trip airport transfers. Beaches is also building a family resort on the island as part of its expansion through 2027.

So the practical picture for winter 2026–27 in Barbados: two all-inclusive adults-only options, a family all-inclusive on the way, and now 160 rooms of non-inclusive hotel product in two very different formats — a mid-size branded hotel on the south coast and a 28-suite boutique on the west.

Which format actually costs less?

This is the question that decides most Barbados trips, and the honest answer is that it depends entirely on how you eat and drink.

Barbados is not an inexpensive island for restaurants, particularly on the west coast. A non-inclusive stay looks cheaper on the room line and then does not stay cheaper. Conversely, if you are the sort of traveller who eats one real meal a day and wants to spend evenings at the rum shops rather than at a resort buffet, an all-inclusive rate is money you will not use.

The two new hotels split that difference differently. Blue Monkey includes breakfast and transfers, which removes two of the three things people forget to budget. Hotel Indigo includes parking, which matters because a south-coast base without a car is more limiting than a west-coast one.
