I visited shortly after its grand opening, and its design – complete with rooftop SkyPools, sweeping ocean views, and intimate suites – impressed me deeply.

This destination feels like two entire resorts in one. With access to Sandals Ochi just a short shuttle ride away, guests enjoy a total of 28 restaurants, 22 bars, 13 pools, and unmatched dining variety – all included. It’s an ideal spot for couples seeking top-tier service, modern style, and ease of access to both nature and nightlife.

The vibe here effortlessly blends openness with intimacy. Many pools are beachfront, offering unobstructed ocean views, yet villa wings are tucked away with sound buffering so romantic evenings feel quiet, even with active zones nearby. The rooftop skypool suites occupy a dramatic perch overlooking the Caribbean Sea, serving as visual signatures of modern luxury. 

At the same time, hidden fire pits, intimate garden corners, and a spa pool with labyrinthine design foster peaceful spaces that feel tucked in, not showy. • Upscale fine dining at L’Amande pairs rich flavors like beef bourguignon and coq au vin with evening tuxedos and dress codes.

Sandals Dunn’s River reserves five main pool sections plus two river-style pools. Each of them offers a distinct energy and design. The main pool flanks the lobby, with waterfall walls, swim-up bars, and daily live music that lends a festival vibe.

Just steps away, the swim-up bar pool provides a more relaxed, drink-in-hand experience – quiet enough to unwind but close enough to enjoy some company. A pair of river pools meanders through the property.

The VIP suites offer private plunge pools or rooftop tubs, depending on your category, complete with music, waterproof speakers, and in-cabin room service whenever you want it. Within the spa area, you’ll also find a tranquil pool and hot/cold plunge zone.

On the beach, you get loungers shaded by palms, water sport stations, and a chance to capture the sunset moments. The coastline is framed by soft sand and overlooks a deep Caribbean horizon. This was my favorite backdrop for cocktails.

For surface water lovers, complimentary snorkeling gear, kayaks, Hobie Cats, and paddleboards are available daily (with optional guided tours to explore marine life). The resort also offers glass-bottom boat rides, perfect for calmer evenings.

For adrenaline-seekers, wakeboarding, knee-boarding, and tubing donuts are also included. Trust me, you cannot find this at many all-inclusive resorts. Transport and green fees to the nearby golf club are also part of the package.

On land, beachfront courts support tennis and beach volleyball, while shuffleboard, basketball hoops, and pedal-powered fitness bikes are available too. An on-site conditioning gym with free weights and cardio equipment will help you focus on your fitness routines. Things to See Outside the Resort

While this Ocho Rios resort itself is amazing, you’re just minutes from some of Jamaica’s most memorable sites. Dunn’s River Falls is the obvious highlight – a cascading waterfall you can climb or descend with a guide, ending in lush natural pools. I recommend you combine this with river tubing adventures or a visit to the nearby Blue Hole, complete with rope swings and jungle streams.

Adventure-lovers can zip-line through rainforest canopies, take horseback rides along secluded beaches, or explore local fishing villages, where rum shops, craft markets, and community stories give you an authentic Jamaican connection.

When to Visit and Pricing Tips

This is actually the most interesting bit. The weather there changes from season to season, but trust me, you’re not ready for the best visiting times.

The best weather in Jamaica is from December through April – clear skies, mild temperatures, and calm seas – but these months are also peak prices. 

For better value, consider mid‑May through mid‑December as your window – lower rates, fewer crowds, and occasional afternoon showers. If you want to book a SkyPool or Rondoval suite, do it 6-9 months before – these categories sell quickly and tiers nearly double in price between shoulder season and peak season.

Some interesting promotions like anniversary packages include many room categories, but only if you register early and meet club or butler tier requirements. Also, I advise you to use the resort credit strategically – spa treatments the day before departure, specialty dinners on the anniversary night, or private cabana reservations that will elevate your celebration at no additional cost or effort.

This resort feels like luxury with a pulse.
