Every Sandals and Beaches rate includes a round-trip shared airport transfer — but it is included from a specific named airport to the resort, not from wherever you happen to land. That distinction is what breaks split stays, off-property first nights and multi-island trips. And the drive times circulating on travel blogs disagree with what Sandals publishes on its own pages by as much as 45 minutes.
This is the question I get more than almost any other in the two weeks before a trip: “how long is the ride, and is it really included?” Every all-inclusive blog has a drive-time list. What none of them do is check those numbers against what Sandals actually publishes, or explain the rules that decide whether your transfer survives contact with your itinerary.
So I went and read the travel-checklist page for every operating Sandals and Beaches resort on August 24, 2026, and put the official figures next to the numbers that get copied around the internet. Some of them are not close.
What I found:
- Three Ocho Rios resorts include transfers from three different airports — Montego Bay, Ian Fleming (OCJ) and Kingston (KIN). Almost no guide mentions Kingston at all.
- St. Lucia’s official UVF times are far longer than the blogs say. Sandals says about 120 minutes to Halcyon Beach and Grande St. Lucian. The widely-copied figure is 75–90.
- Sandals Negril and Beaches Negril publish different times for the same drive. 60 minutes versus 80 minutes, from the same airport, to resorts a few minutes apart.
- Three resorts publish no transfer time at all — Ochi, Dunn’s River and Royal Plantation. The “about two hours” figure you have read is not on any official page.
- No official page states what happens if you don’t use the arrival leg. That silence is exactly why split stays go wrong.
The table: official times vs. what gets published
“Official” below means the wording on that resort’s own travel-checklist page as of August 24, 2026. “Commonly published” is the figure repeated across the top-ranking transfer guides. Where a resort is closed for renovation, I have noted the reopening date.

Sandals Emerald Bay is not in the table; it is closed for conversion to a Beaches property. Times are moving-vehicle estimates published by the resorts, not door-to-door times — see tip 3.
The rule that actually matters: it’s included from the airport, not from you
The Sandals and Beaches included transfer is a round-trip service between a named airport and the resort, on the day you check in and the day you check out. It is not a voucher for ground transportation you can spend elsewhere.
That single sentence answers most of the split-stay questions I get. If you land at Hewanorra, spend three nights in Soufrière, and then move to Sandals Regency La Toc, you have not used the arrival leg. Sandals does not publish a rule allowing you to swap it for a Soufrière pickup, and there is no credit for the unused half. Your departure transfer from the resort back to UVF is still yours — that one survives, and you should absolutely use it.
This is not Sandals being difficult. The transfer is a scheduled coach run against arriving flight manifests. There is no coach going to Soufrière.
I have watched this play out at the UVF arrivals hall more than once: a couple books three nights at a small non-Sandals hotel first, assumes the Sandals bus will collect them later in the week, and finds out at the desk that it does not work that way. The fix is always the same and always cheaper if it’s arranged before you fly — you book a private one-way to your first hotel, and you keep the Sandals return leg for the way home.
Nine things the transfer guides leave out
1. Three Jamaica resorts include Kingston. Sandals Ochi, Sandals Dunn’s River and Sandals Royal Plantation all state that round-trip transfers from Montego Bay, Ian Fleming (Ocho Rios) and Norman Manley in Kingston are included. If a Kingston routing is cheaper or lands at a better hour, that is a real option for the Ocho Rios resorts — and it is not an option for Negril or Montego Bay properties.
2. In St. Lucia, both airports count. The Sandals pages explicitly say “your included roundtrip transfer from either airport in Saint Lucia.” Vigie (SLU) is under 15 minutes to the north-coast resorts versus about two hours from Hewanorra. If you can connect into SLU, you buy back nearly four hours of vacation across the round trip.
3. The published time is ride time, not airport-to-room time. The shared coach waits to fill against the flight schedule. At Montego Bay in high season, budget 30–60 minutes between clearing customs and the wheels turning. A “60 minute ride” to Negril is realistically a two-hour afternoon.
4. Late-afternoon UVF arrivals are the single most common planning mistake in St. Lucia. Land at 4:00 p.m., add immigration, add coach loading, add the official two hours, and you are checking in near 7:30 p.m. with dinner reservations already gone. Either fly in earlier or accept that day one is a travel day.
5. Departure day has an amenity nobody uses. Multiple resorts state that if your flight is in the afternoon or delayed, you can stay and use the lounge, couches and changing facilities with showers after checkout. Halcyon Beach is the interesting one: its own page directs departing guests to use the amenities at Sandals Grande St. Lucian, not Halcyon.
6. Saint Vincent’s boat transfer must be pre-selected. Butler-level guests can take a boat from Argyle with an onboard bar — but Sandals states it “must be selected prior to travel using our Butler Preferences Center” and is “subject to availability and weather conditions.” This is a booking-time decision, not a check-in request.
7. Some private transfers are already in your rate. Overwater villa and bungalow guests at Sandals Caribbean Cay and Sandals South Coast get complimentary private luxury vehicle transfers. Top-tier suites at Sandals Royal Barbados include a Rolls-Royce or Mercedes-Benz. At Sandals Royal Bahamian, private transfers are a benefit of select butler categories only — everybody else pays for the limousine. None of this is prominent in the room descriptions.
8. Airport lounges exist in three countries, not everywhere. Sandals lists complimentary airport lounges for Jamaica, Saint Lucia and The Bahamas. Other islands have a Sandals or Beaches desk outside immigration, which is a different thing.
9. No official page states a flight-details deadline — which is precisely why you need one. The transfer is built off your flight information. If your flights change and nobody tells Sandals, the coach is scheduled against the wrong arrival. Send changes to your advisor the day they happen.

Most third-party guides publish 90 minutes. Plan on 90 minutes of moving time plus 30–60 minutes of coach assembly at the airport in high season.
Which airport should I fly into for a St. Lucia Sandals?
Fly into Vigie (SLU) if you can, because Sandals includes transfers from both St. Lucia airports and SLU is under 15 minutes from the north-coast resorts versus about 120 minutes from Hewanorra (UVF). UVF takes almost all of the long-haul international service, so most travellers land there — but a connection into SLU saves roughly three and a half hours across the round trip.
Can I fly into Kingston for a Sandals stay?
Yes, if you are staying at Sandals Ochi, Sandals Dunn’s River or Sandals Royal Plantation — all three list Norman Manley International in Kingston as an included transfer airport alongside Montego Bay and Ian Fleming. Resorts in Negril, Montego Bay and on the south coast list Sangster International only.
Is it worth paying for a private transfer?
It is worth it in exactly two situations: a long Jamaica or St. Lucia run where the shared coach makes multiple resort stops, and any arrival with small children or a tight dinner reservation. For a 15-minute BGI, GND, NAS or PLS transfer, the shared coach is fine and the upgrade is money better spent inside the resort.
What happens if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
Sandals schedules your coach against your flight information, so a change that nobody reports means the transfer is waiting for a flight you are not on. Tell your travel advisor the moment your itinerary changes; a rebooked arrival is straightforward to re-slot, an unreported one is not.
Where this leaves you
The transfer is one of the genuinely good parts of a Sandals or Beaches booking — round-trip ground transport at properties where it would otherwise run $80–$120 per person is real value. It just is not flexible, and it does not survive an itinerary that wanders.
