Booking your first Regent Seven Seas cruise is exciting — and maybe a little overwhelming. With so much included and a reputation for luxury, you probably have dozens of questions about what to expect. This guide covers everything a first-time Regent cruiser needs to know, from booking tips to what happens on embarkation day.

Before You Book: Choosing Your Voyage

Regent sails six ships to destinations worldwide — from the Caribbean and Mediterranean to Alaska, Asia, and beyond. For a first voyage, many travelers choose a seven-night Caribbean or Mediterranean itinerary. These are long enough to experience Regent’s onboard luxury and included excursions, but short enough to be a manageable first taste.

When selecting your suite, know that even the entry-level Deluxe Veranda Suite is spacious at 300+ square feet with a private balcony. Higher categories like the Penthouse Suite (roughly 400 sq ft) and Concierge Suites offer additional perks like priority dining and excursion reservations. All suites include a dedicated butler in the highest tiers.

Important Booking Timelines

Regent has specific booking windows you should know about. Shore excursions open for reservation 300 days before sailing (365 days for Concierge guests). Dining reservations open 75 days before sailing (90 days for Concierge). Spa treatments at the onboard Serene Spa and Wellness can be booked starting 60 days prior. Since availability is limited — especially for popular ports and prime dinner times — booking early gives you the best selection.

What to Pack: Dress Code Guide

Regent has a smart-casual dress code for most evenings. Think collared shirts, slacks, and nice blouses or dresses. On select evenings designated as “Elegant,” men typically wear suits or sport coats and women wear cocktail dresses or elegant pantsuits. Jeans, shorts, and flip-flops are fine during the day at the pool and casual venues, but not in the main restaurants at dinner.

A helpful tip: Regent includes complimentary valet laundry, so you can pack lighter than you might think. One week’s worth of outfits is plenty even for a two-week cruise.

Embarkation Day: What to Expect

If your fare includes a pre-cruise hotel stay, Regent handles the transfer from hotel to port. At the terminal, check-in is efficient and stress-free compared to larger cruise lines. You’ll be welcomed aboard with a glass of champagne, and your suite will be ready to explore. Luggage is delivered to your suite within the first few hours.

Take time on embarkation day to explore the ship, find the restaurants, visit the pool deck, and introduce yourself to your suite attendant or butler. The atmosphere onboard is immediately relaxed and welcoming.

Dining: How It Works

Every restaurant onboard is included — no cover charges, no upcharges, no limits. The main dining room, Compass Rose, is open seating for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (no assigned tables or times). Specialty restaurants like Prime 7 (steakhouse), Chartreuse (French), and Pacific Rim (Asian fusion) require reservations but have no additional cost. You can eat at a different restaurant every night, or revisit your favorites as often as you like.

Shore Excursions: Making the Most of Included Tours

Regent includes unlimited shore excursions, which is one of the biggest value propositions. You’ll find options ranging from walking tours and cultural visits to snorkeling, cooking classes, and adventure activities. Book your top choices early as popular excursions fill up quickly. You can also book multiple excursions in a single port if timing allows.

Regent also offers premium “Regent Choice” excursions that provide more immersive or exclusive experiences. Some of these carry an additional fee, but the vast majority of shore excursion options are fully included.

Onboard Life: Wi-Fi, Spa, and Entertainment

Wi-Fi is complimentary and available throughout the ship. The connection quality has improved significantly in recent years, and most guests find it suitable for email, social media, and light streaming. The Serene Spa and Wellness center offers treatments at standard luxury spa pricing (these are not included in the fare). The fitness center and group classes, however, are complimentary.

Entertainment includes production shows, live music, enrichment lectures, cooking demonstrations, and themed events. The atmosphere is sophisticated but not stuffy — think elegant lounge rather than Vegas showroom.

Traveling with Children on Regent

While Regent caters primarily to adults, children are welcome. Infants must be at least six months old (one year for voyages with three or more consecutive sea days). On select sailings, the Club Mariner youth program offers supervised activities for ages 5-8, 9-12, and 13-17. However, Regent is generally best suited for families with older, well-traveled children who will appreciate the refined atmosphere.

Tips from Experienced Regent Cruisers

Book dining reservations as soon as your window opens — popular times at specialty restaurants fill fast. Take advantage of the complimentary laundry service to pack lighter. Don’t over-plan your sea days — some of the best moments happen when you’re simply relaxing on your balcony or discovering a quiet corner of the ship. And most importantly, remember that everything is included, so say yes to that extra glass of champagne or that second excursion.
